Stroking another controversy, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has refused to award clearance to Alankrita Shrivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha movie.
The movie features Konkona Sensharma and Ratna Pathak Shah in the journey of four women which looks to manage their identity crisis in a society confined within its fundamental principles.
Alankrita has strongly condemned this decision of CBFC and claimed this action as an assault on women’s rights. She vowed to fight relentlessly to release her film.
Lipstick Under My Burkha movie has won significant accolades at international events such as the Oxfam Award for the Best Film on Gender Equality at the Mumbai Film Festival and the Spirit of Asia prize at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
The CBFC has issued a letter related to the non-clearnce of the movie which states that “The story is lady oriented, their fantasy above life. There are continuous sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society, hence film refused under guidelines.“
