In what could be the mockery to democracy is the news which emerged yesterday alleging that All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam – Amma Chief V K Sasikala was given a VIP treatment in Bengaluru jail fr an alleged consideration of Rs.2 crores.
The news gained importance because of the person who accused Sasikala about this. Deputy Inspector of General-Prisons D Roopa made the allegations in a report to her superior Director General of Police-Prisons H S Sathyanarayana Rao.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a “high-level probe” into the allegations mentioning that who ever the person is, strict action will be taken against them. In her report, Roopa said a special kitchen was functioning in the central prison for Sasikala. The charges were vehemently denied by Rao who said that the report has reached him after office hours and hence he was not in a position to order for an immediate probe.
“There are rumours that the kitchen is continuing to function despite the issue being brought to your (Rao) notice. There is also a talk that Rs 2 crore has been paid as bribe for this.As unfortunately these allegations are also against you, it is requested that you look into the matter and take merciless disciplinary action against erroneous officials,” Roopa said in the report.
Rao said there was no special provision given to Sasikala and even her visitors were allowed as per the rules and said that Roopa should have discussed the issue with him first rather than going to the press and media and said that he is willing to face any charge and investigation. He also denied the allegations levelled against him for accepting the bribe.
The news has created a nationwide uproar and few opined that Sasikala should be transferred to Tihar Jail.
