After the Supreme Court found Sasikala guilty in the disproportionate assets case and sentenced her to four years in jail, Sasikala fired the rebels including O Panneerselvam and school education minister K Pandiarajan. In another move, she appointed Edappadi Palanisamy, as the new legislative leader of AIADMK. However, the leaders in Panneerselvam camp said that Sasikala does not have the authority to issue such orders because she herself was expelled last week by presidium chairman E Madhusudanan. The leaders claimed that Sasikala has been rejected by the party workers, people and the court; hence, she has no authority to sack members of AIADMK.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to form the government under the leadership of new CM face Edappadi Palanisamy. Palanisamy met Governor Vidyasagar Rao today and staked his claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu. He presented the list of MLAs that are supporting him, which were 126 in total. Panneerselvam also met the governor, but the details of their discussion were not revealed. It is expected that the governor will take a decision soon based on recommendations provided by three legal luminaries, including Soli Sorabjee. Although, Palanisamy currently has the majority support of MLAs, recent events indicate that things can go in any direction. Nothing can be said conclusively until the government has been formally appointed by the governor in Tamil Nadu.
