Since the Qatar crisis broke out, Pakistan has been doing a tough balancing act, to avoid hurting any of the parties involved. However, its diplomatic charm failed to impress the Saudi King Salman, who outright asked Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to clear his stand on Qatar. “Are you with us or with Qatar?” Saudi King Salman asked quite clearly to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during a meeting held in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. However, even after the straightforward query by Saudi King Salman, Pakistan has said that it will not take sides in the worsening diplomatic crisis in the Middle East. Experts said that Pakistan may not go against Qatar, as it may hurt its people living in that country.
However, Pakistan can also not afford to offend Saudi Arabia, which is why it is utilizing diplomatic channels to find an amicable solution to the crisis. In an effort to find a solution, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be visiting Kuwait, Qatar and Turkey in the coming days. Sharif will be accompanied by Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and other senior officials. However, up till now, Pakistan’s efforts have not led to any tangible results. The crisis continues to be in the same state as it was earlier.
