Saudi Arabia’s Security forces have successfully foiled a terror plot that was allegedly targeting the grand mosque of mecca.
The forces surrounded the home where the man was hiding, in the process the man blew himself, earlier the authorities gave some demands and the suspect refused to comply with demands to surrender and instead opened fire on the forces and then finally killed himself.
The explosion caused the partial collapse of the building in which the suspect was hiding. Six expatriates were injured and taken to a hospital.
The authorities have arrested, Five people, including one woman, suspected of involvement in the plot were arrested. Three groups, two based in Mecca and one in Jeddah, planned the attack, the Interior Ministry said.
The interior ministry said in a statement it “confirms that this terrorist network, whose terrorist plan was thwarted, violated, in what they would have perpetrated, all sanctities by targeting the security of the Grand Mosque, the holiest place on Earth.
Most of the targets in Saudi Arabia have been the Shiite minority and security forces, killing dozens of people.
Saudi Arabia has suffered a string of terror attacks in recent years, as well as thwarting a number of alleged plots.
