Terming the Ram Mandir issue in Ayodhya as sensitive and sentimental, the Supreme Court today said that the issue needs to be resolved through mutual discussions. The court said that it’s an issue of faith and not legality, which is why it needs to be resolved through talks. The court offered to mediate in case a solution could not be agreed upon by both the sides. It may be recalled that an earlier High Court order had accepted the fact that the birth of Lord Rama took place under the central dome of the makeshift temple in Ayodhya, something that gives Hindus the right to worship there. However, the Supreme Court had put a freeze on the High Court’s judgment in 2010.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court’s suggestion for an out-of-court settlement has been hailed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). According to Union Minister Mahesh Sharma, the Supreme Court has made a superb suggestion. However, most of the Muslim organizations including the Babri Masjid Action Committee were not that sure since they reasoned that such attempts for an out-of-court settlement have been made earlier also, but these have failed every time.
