For many students, it was a delight to get back to their studies, as schools in Kashmir reopened today after remaining closed for several months. The schools that reopened today include the ones in the Kashmir division and other areas that come under the winter zone in Jammu region. It may be recalled that these schools had remained shut for several months, primarily due to widespread unrest as well as the winter season. The temperature today was still quite cold due to fresh rainfall, but students still attended their schools in large numbers.
An official from the education department said that the schools have reopened today as per schedule. He added that everyone is hoping that there will be peace henceforth so that students don’t lose their valuable academic time. Last year, the students had lost around 6 months of their academic time due to unrest created after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani.
However, not all schools reopened today, as some of the schools are located in snow-bound areas of north Kashmir. These schools are located in areas such as Gurez, Machhil, Tangdhar and Keran. Since there is a risk of avalanches and landslides, the authorities have planned to reopen these schools after March 12.
