Scores of civilians killed in Philippines’ Marawi City

It is reported that the residents fleeing besieged Marawi City have seen about 100 dead bodies in an area where the army and ISIL-linked fighters have clashed in the last three weeks.

Volunteers have been trying to free hundreds of civilians caught in the crossfire via “peace corridors”, but it is believed many of those trapped were still opting to hide rather than risk being discovered by the fighters.

The authorities have imposed Martial law across the entire island of Mindanao. Anyone is subject to investigation, even children.

It is been sited that the flag of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant were flying over several government building in the Marawi city.

The Military has made progress by capturing a senior member of the ISIL-linked group. One of the seven Maute brothers, Mohammad Noaim Maute, was arrested at a checkpoint just after dawn.

Mohammad, is the suspected to be the bomb-maker for the group. During the time of arrest, he was holding a fake student card of the Marawi-based Mindano State University when stopped at a checkpoint. He is an Arabic language teacher.

It is feared that as many as 290 people have died in over three weeks of fighting between the ISIS and the military.
