Senior journalist and a fellow of Observer’s Research Foundation Ashok Malik has been appointed as the press secretary to the newly elect President Ramnath Kovind. Mr Malik is also the Padmashri Awardee.
Chairman Public Enterprises Selection Board Sanjay Kothari has been appointed secretary to the new President and Bharat Lal, an Indian Forest Service (IFoS) officer, was appointed as the Joint Secretary to the President.
Mr Malik has been into journalism for the past 20 years and has contributed to Times of India, Hindustan Times, Yale Global Online among others. The new position being conferred on Mr Malik is valid for 2 years. He has also served as a consulting editor to the Pioneer and Tehelka. Malik has been with ORF since 2015 and presently heads its ‘Neighbourhood Regional Studies Initiative’, which focuses on Indian domestic politics and foreign/trade policy.
He has published India: Spirit of Enterprise which focuses on the growth of India’s leading private sector industries since 1991, and its role in the Indian economy which has been revered among his peers and also had the privilege of being named Australia India Institute-ORF Chair for Indo-Pacific Studies apart from being a
member on the bilateral Task Force on Perceptions commissioned by the Australia India Institute, University of Melbourne, to assess and make recommendations on the relationship between Australia and India.
He is expected to help the new President with his expertise in various field which may augment the position being offered to him.
