Lalu Prasad Yadav may have made up his mind to create and anti-BJP wave in the country, but it appears that his attempts are not getting the desired support, not even with leaders who were earlier ready to support him. Lalu has organized the ‘BJP bhagao, desh bachao’ rally in Patna on August 27, which was supposed to create an anti-BJP force at the national level, but many top opposition leaders have refused to attend. Congress President Sonia Gandhi, his son Rahul Gandhi, BSP chief Mayawati and Left parties will not be attending the event. The slogan ‘BJP bhagao, desh bachao’ looks promising, but Lalu cannot get the support he needs just based on a slogan. It appears that corruption charges against him and his family members have alienated the leaders.
The rally is Lalu’s attempt to create a ‘mahagathbandhan’ (grand alliance) that could take on BJP at the national level. Lalu had tried to create and anti-BJP formula in Uttar Pradesh as well, but that too had failed. The BJP had won a landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh in the assembly elections conducted earlier this year. In recent times, Lalu has been left extremely bitter after cases were filed against his family members. Lalu’s bitterness crossed all limits after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ditched him and joined with BJP to form a new government in Bihar.
