The leader of opposition in Gujarat assembly Shankarsinh Vaghela has announced that he is quitting the Congress party. Vaghela is a rebel BJP leader and he had joined Congress 17 years back after merging his Rashtriya Janata Party (RJP) with the Congress. Vaghela announced his decision to quit Congress on the occasion of his 77th birthday. However, Vaghela also said that he will not be joining the BJP. At a ‘Sam-Samvedna Sammelan’ organized in Gandhinagar to celebrate his birthday, which was attended by a large crowd, Vaghela said, “I have resigned as the Leader of Opposition. I will resign as Congress MLA after the Rajya Sabha elections. I am freeing myself from Congress.”
While addressing the audience, Vaghela said that it was not easy for him to leave the BJP. He said that destiny has now brought his life full circle, as he has now decided to leave the Congress as well. Vaghela said that he is a free bird now and does not have any intentions of joining BJP. “I am dedicating myself to the service of people from today. I will be there for poor, dalits, traders, workers, farmers, fixed pay workers and even poor upper castes”, said Vaghela. However, Vaghela has not imposed any conditions on his MLAs, and said that they can decide their own future and join any party.
