In an important development today, a special CBI court filed charges of murder and criminal conspiracy against Indrani Mukerjea, her husband Peter Mukerjea and former husband Sanjeev Khanna in the case involving the murder of Indrani’s daughter Sheena Bora in 2012.
After the charges were read out to the accused, all of them pleaded not-guilty and said that they were ready to face trial. As per the order given by judge H S Mahajan, the trial will commence on February 1.
The various charges leveled against the 3 accused include IPC sections 120(b) (criminal conspiracy), 364 (kidnapping), 302 (murder), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), 203 (giving false information in respect of an offence) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence).
Indrani and Sanjeev were additionally charged under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 120(B) (criminal conspiracy) for plotting to kill her son and Sheena’s brother Mikhail Bora. It was based on Mikhail’s statement that Indrani had spiked his drink with sedatives on the same day when Sheena Bora was killed.
Indrani has also been charged under IPC section 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record).
