Th founder of HCL, Shiv Nadar tops the list of Philanthropy from India for the year 2016. The self made billionaire who owns a mammoth empire spanning from Shiv Nadar Foundation to SSN College of Engineering has been known for his generosity when it comes to philanthropy. He has donated Rs.630 crores last year for various charities including health care and infrastructure projects building for creating additional capacity for Shiv Nadar University.
Not many would know that he is related to Late Dr Sivanthi Athithan whose family controls the India’s largest selling vernacular daily – Dhina Thanthi.
Nadar was ranked 5th Richest Indian with an estimated worth of Rs.73,000 Crore or close to USD 12 Billion.
Former Infosys chief executive Kris Gopalakrishnan & family was ranked 2nd with donation of Rs.313 crores followed by Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani were ranked with contributions of Rs 303 crore respectively.
Aditya Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla (49) was the youngest philanthropist in the list, donating Rs 21 crore.
Couple of prominent philanthropists who missed out on this list this time were Wipro Chairman Azim Premji and N R Narayamurthy of Infosys.
