After keeping NDA (National Democratic Alliance) waiting for quite some time, the Shiv Sena has officially declared its support for Ram Nath Kovind, who is NDA’s candidate for the post of President of India. NDA was hoping to get Shiv Sena’s support in the election of the President of India, but due to the ongoing troubles between BJP and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, the latter appeared to have chosen to play the waiting game. However, with support coming in for Kovind from other parties such as Biju Janata Dal and Telangana Rashtra Samiti, it appears that Shiv Sena has finally decided to join the winning side.
The decision to support Ram Nath Kovind as President of India was taken by Shiv Sena today after a 90 minute meeting. The meeting was hosted by Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray at his Bandra residence. The meeting was attended by several of the senior leaders of Shiv Sena. Speaking about the decision, Thackeray said, “We are supporting Ram Nathji’s candidature and our best wishes are with him.” It may be recalled that Shiv Sena had earlier suggested the name of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for the post of President.
