Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that his party may take an independent line on presidential elections.
Sena had ditched the BJP led NDA during 2007 and 2012 by backing Pratibha Patil and Pranab Mukherjee .
Both Patil and Mukherjee had called on the late Sena Chief Bal Thackeray to seek his party’s support.
Raut said the Sena would continue to press for RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat as NDA’s candidate for presidential election.
“Bhagwat is the most appropriate choice for the Rashtrapati’s office if India is to be turned into a Hindu Rashtra,” he said.
Raut’s statement clearly indicates that Matoshree will play cat and mouse game with BJP which needs Sena’s backing for the presidential elections in July.
The NDA is short of the majority mark to elect a president and is looking to rope in non-UPA parties
