Chetan Kumar Cheetah, the CRPF commandant who slipped into a coma two months ago after being hit by nine bullets in a gun battle in Kashmir, has regained consciousness and is talking again.
Doctors treating him at the AIIMS Trauma Centre in Delhi are describing it as nothing short of a miracle. Cheetah spent a month in ICU.Doctors added that Cheetah is fit to be discharged.
The 45 year old had bullet injuries in his head , the upper limbs were badly fractured and the globe of his right eye had ruptured.
His GCS score was M3. He was in deep coma. Now his score is M6. His conscious and all vitals are stable stated doctors.
Cheetah was critically injured in an encounter in Kashmir’s Bandipora district on February 14, in which at least three soldiers and one militant were killed. Sources said the terrorists has received prior information about the attack on their hideout.
The CRPF Commandant was first taken to military hospital in Srinagar where medications were given to prevent bleeding.However , given the extent of the injuriesand his state , itwas then decided to airlift him to the AIIMS trauma center.
Cheetah’s wife Uma Singh said, in the report, that it wasn’t the medical intervention alone that helped him recover. That his willpower and his love for fitness helped too.
TheCRPF commandants has two kids, both of them studying in school and Singh said they are waiting for father to return.
