Should the role of education be to prepare students for working life, or to broaden their mind?

In my views, now-a-days role of education is useful only for getting marks, jobs but not for knowledge. Some students only want to get knowledge, instead of marks. That’s why, they are not ‘developed’. Remaining all are leaving their technical knowledge after getting a job. This is due to todays competition, students mind-set and parents mind-set.

   In past days means before 15 years back education is very tough and competition is less. Even though people are struggling so much for getting a job. But those days preference of candidates’ knowledge is more. But now-a-days due to some reasons getting marks and grades are primary and priority ones’. That’s why, we are having so many of brilliant persons, but we still work on old inventions.

  Education is definitely to humans. Because after coming out of mother, the rest of our life depends on education only. One proverb is there

‘Man without education is like Bird without wings’

That is the power of Education. But, we are wasting that power. Now-a-days there are so many facilities to students for study purpose. But they are misusing. They are not studying for knowledge, they are studying for marks, grades. In some cases ‘By heart’ is good. But for every case we are ‘by hearting’ studies. It is not correct. This means we are using our brain for ‘getting’ only, not for ‘thinking’.

    In India, there are some IIT institutions are there. So many outstanding, brilliant students are studying there. But, no one of those institutions does something to society. They always want to get a job in abroad, something something else. Some ordinary students doing miracles in inventions.Because they are interested in the concepts, but not marks.  Not only in India, in every country it is there.                                                                 

 From childhood onwards we have to study for concept, but not for only marks. I also agree that the marks are important. But we are giving more importance to marks only. We struggled very hard (by heart) for examinations. We wrote very well. We got excellent grades and marks. We are promoted to another class. After a few days, if anyone asks us any question regarding previous class, we are behaving like stammer people. Why it happened? Think Once.

In olden days, people are very clever, even though they don’t know education, they use intelligence and solve problems. Alexander Graham Bell, Issac Newton, Edison, Albert Einstein, J.C.Bose, etc. all is using their intelligence and become popular persons. Not only these people there are so many people create wonders because of their knowledge. Those days, they do not have any equipment, technology, facilities, but they use their brain for miracles. Do you Know? Einstein used 8% his brain, but we are now using                 1-2%.

  Mistakes is not only belongs to students, but also to parents and teachers. Parents want to see their children in good position. That’s why, they want their children in 1st in studies. It is not wrong. But, they force their children for getting marks. Their intention is good, but in children’s views it is forced on them. That’s why, instead of learning, they are                    by-hearting subjects. Teachers are also forced students for good marks for their institution’s reputation. It is not correct, educate students in a peaceful manner, but not in a painful manner. Students are spending half of their day for studies only. Is it required? In some institutions, teachers separate students based on their marks, grades. What is this? How can we estimate student by his/her marks. Is Einstein a topper? (or) Mark Jukerberb an outstanding student in studies?

  I gave one good example. In our initial days in school. We learned alphabets, numbers, rhymes, etc. Till now we know those. But if we learned anything for the exam, we quickly forget after completion of exam. This is because, at the initial stage, we don’t know about studies, marks, competition and no pressure on us. But present all are there.

Finally, I want to say is now-a-days role of education is only for working life not for broadening minds. It’s true. Students have only book knowledge, instead of outside book knowledge. The Unfortunate thing is that, even though for interviews, also we are searching answers for “Introduce Yourself?”. We don’t know about ourself?! Think once. Todays education is only for job purpose. That’s why instead of scientists.. Employees are more. Tell me the person in present days who studying only for knowledge, but not for job. In educational institutions “Praticals”The day when knowledge is more than marks, that day I agree that education is used for broadening minds. Some students wrote exams in their own words regarding to that topic. But some teachers correct their answer scripts based upon notes, text books. If a single word is missed, they cut marks. That’s why so many students don’t want to write in own words. I’m insulting all teachers, only some teachers. Am I correct (or) not?

Getting a job is important, because of that doesn’t make education as a “Job machine”.But some students studying for knowledge purpose. Some parents and teachers also encourage students towards knowledge, instead of marks. Some educational institutions also giving good education to now-a-days students.That’s why, now-a-days students invent so many useful inventions Hope these type situations increases soon.

My suggestion is to teach lessons to students not only from books but also from outside. Give work jobs to students not for marks. Give them some tasks related to that lesson. Counsel them that marks are not only important and also tell them marks without knowledge is useless. Give some topics to them and tell them to write an article regarding that topic (Like this contest). By doing all these things, even though they forget the lessons, by they definitely remember the works they did for that particular lesson and they express their views in their own words. Not only teachers, parents also take care.
