In shocking statement by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former BJP Rajya Sabha MP Navjyot Singh Siddhu is tipped to be the Congress’s CM candidate for the upcoming Punjab elections. What is extremely funny is that the Congress’ entire campaign has been designed aroungd former Punjab CM Captain Amarider Singh.
Navjyot Singh Sidhu was made a Rajya Sabha MP by the BJP in a bid to placate him, but it seems that he was against the BJP’s coalition with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and had quit the party. He was being wooed by the Aam Admi Party (AAP), but Mr. Sidhu wanted to be the Chief Ministerial candidate. This was not acceptable to the AAP and was the reason for the AAP and Sidhu to part ways. Mr. Sidhu had then floated a political party of his own which was to contest elections on its own. This too was dropped by Sidhu and he finally joined the Congress party.
Mr. Sidhu’s wife, who is a sitting BJP MLA has also joined the Congress party ahead of elections. It is being said that even Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was unhappy with the way in which the current campaign was being led. He was said to be in favour of naming a Chief Ministerial candidate. Currently the constituency from which Mr. Sidhu would fight the election is being debated, but many observers feel it would be the Amritsar East constituency. Amarinder Singh is said to be uncomfortable about Sidhu being projected as the CM candidate as he would prefer to choose the candidate.
