Something seems to be brewing in the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance, which can threaten their unity and political plans. The trouble started when SP released its list of 210 candidates, some of whom were to contest from constituencies that are held by Congress and are considered a stronghold of Congress. Even constituencies like Amethi and Rae Bareli, which are said to be the Gandhi borough, have been included in the list released by Samajwadi Party. The Congress Party certainly won’t accept such moves, and if SP continues to insist, the Congress Party might have to call off the alliance.
Sources have revealed that an ego-war is currently underway over seat-sharing in the State. Priyanka Gandhi has been trying to intervene to resolve the issues, but it is learned that her text messages sent to Akhilesh Yadav have not been replied to. It has also been revealed that Priyanka has sent her personal emissary, Dheeraj, to Lucknow to meet Akhilesh. However, details of the meet, and when it will happen are still unknown.
The Congress party is blaming Akhilesh Yadav for the current deadlock. However, there is speculation that the failed meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh, which SP wanted to host in Lucknow, has caused the rift between the two parties. Some also say that Congress Party’s demand to increase the seats from 103 to 138 has created tension between the two parties. Akhilesh is more emboldened now after seizing full control of Samajwadi Party and is unlikely to accept such demands from Congress. His rising popularity also gives him a lot more maneuverability in seat sharing talks.
If the SP-Congress alliance fails, it will be a big blow to Rahul Gandhi and Congress party. The Congress party could be completely wiped out in the UP Polls if it does not find a solution soon.
