Stakeholder consultations on for air passengers' digital ID number: Raju

New Delhi, July 20 (IANS) The government on Thursday said that it has conducted various stakeholder consultations to evolve a procedure that would mandate air passengers to furnish a digital identification number for booking tickets.

This information was given by Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju to the Lok Sabha on Thursday. The minister was answering a question raised during question hour.

“Various stakeholder consultations have been conducted and suggestions have been received for air passengers to furnish a digital identification number at the time of purchasing an air ticket to enable seamless air travel,” the minister said in a written reply.

According to the minister, the upgradation of technology for passenger facilitation is a continuous process.

“Discussions are held regularly with diverse stakeholders on the usage of technology for the benefit of passengers and adopting common protocols for data sharing across airlines, airports, travel agents and others,” the minister said.

The minister disclosed that three committees including a “Technical Committee” for implementation of technology-enabled seamless passenger facilities across airports in India have been constituted.

“No specific timeline has been fixed because input will be received from the committee periodically regarding appropriate technology standards and interoperability protocols,” the minister added.
