Speaking to the media for the first time, BJP Haryana chief Subhash Barala said that Varnika is like his daughter. He also said that there is no attempt to influence the investigation and that the law would take its course. It may be recalled that Varnika has accused Barala’s son Vikas and one of his friends of stalking her and attempting to kidnap her on Friday night in Chandigarh. Speaking to the media, Subhash Barala said, “Varnika is like my daughter, there is no pressure to influence the investigation. The law should take its own course; the BJP is a party which believes in women’s rights and freedom.” Even as Barala has tried to paint an acceptable picture of the proceedings, there’s a growing demand for his resignation. Opposition parties are already protesting and groups inside the BJP are also demanding Barala’s resignation.
RK Saini, a BJP lawmaker in Haryana, has already demanded resignation of Barala. Saini said that Barala should have the courtesy to resign to save the party’s image rather than stick to the post and ruin the party’s image. Slamming the BJP, Congress Haryana leader RS Surjewala said, “The BJP is drunk on power…The police proceeded to lodge a case under bailable offences on the direction and diktat of the Union government, which is trying to cover up the matter.”
