In a development that highlights the plight of women in the country, a girl in Chandigarh has accused Haryana’s BJP chief’s son Vikas Barala and one of his friend Ashish Kumar for stalking her. Post her complaint to the police, the police officials arrested the duo. Vikas Barala is the son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala. The incident shows that political power can easily corrupt the young, who may not be able to understand the notion that with great powers come great responsibilities. There have been many such cases in the past where the young members of political families have indulged in crimes against women. Vikas Barala and his friend were arrested by the police, but they were later released on bail.
The girl who filed her complaint with the police is the daughter of an IAS officer. The police have asked her to record her statement before the Illaka (area) magistrate. The duo was booked under section 354 D (stalking) of IPC and 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act (driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs). However, the police said that more sections could be added against the accused based on the statement given by the girl to the magistrate. The police are investigating further in the case to gather more evidence.
