Suhaani Lohia, a girl from Mumbai has won the bronze medal in the girls’ Under-8 category of the Commonwealth Chess Championships 2017.
Suhaani is student of the Dhirubhai Ambani School and trains at the South Mumbai Chess Academy(SMCA). She scored 5.5 out of possible 7 points and was placed at No.3.
Suhaani and her compatriot Hiya Panchal, ranked seventh, who also managed to score 5.5 points out of possible 7 were tied in second spot, but the latter, with a better tie-break progressive score, clinched the silver medal and Suhaani had to settle for the bronze. She has also won U-7 category of the Asian Schools Chess Championship back in 2016 where she scored 7/9 points to win the the bronze behind Khamdamova Afruza of Uzbekistan and Gadut Mecek Angela of Philippines.
At Six, back in 2016, Suhaani Lohia has charted a new path by becoming the first Woman Candidate Master (WCM) from the metropolis. Suhaani has standard and rapid rating of 1139 and blitz rating of 1117.
