Ayurveda has identified various causes of disease, one of which is the suppression of our natural urges. It is true that ayurvedic treatment is very effective in treating various diseases, but prevention should always be first priority. People can avoid several health problems if they stop suppressing their natural urges. Let’s take a look at some common natural urges that people suppress and their link to various diseases.

Sleep: Watching television, playing mobile games, chatting on internet are some common reasons for people to suppresstheir sleep. Suppressing sleep can lead to various problems such as headaches, fatigue and insomnia.

Thirst: This is the body’s natural response to maintain fluid balance. Many times people are busy with other things and suppresstheir urge to drink water. Suppressing thirst can lead to various problems such as headaches, fatigue, skin dryness, bladder pain, heart pain, etc.

Urinate: While travelling or when at work, people often hold back on their urge to urinate. This can lead to various health issues such as kidney disease, urinary tract infection, bladder pain, painful urination, headache and lower back pain.

Flatulence: Similar to belching, passing wind is considered inappropriate in the society. When flatulence is suppressed, air waste gets absorbed into the body. This can lead to various health issues such as aggravation of arthritis and nerve damage, abdominal pain, constipation, difficulty in urination, and distention.

Defecate:Suppressing the urge to defecate is common among people who are away from their homes and constantly on the move.  Suppressing the urge to defecate can lead to various health issues such as constipation, weakened colon, abdominal weakness, muscle cramps, headaches, etc.

Ayurveda recommends a healthy lifestyle and nutritious food choices, which are quite effective at preventing various types of diseases. Ayurvedic treatment can surely treat your medical condition, but why get sick in the first place when you can easily prevent it. So, next time you have any of these natural urges, make sure you do not suppress them. For things like belching, flatulence, etc., you can find a secludedspot to complete the natural process. For other natural urges also, try not to suppress them wherever possible.
