The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is currently engaged in a live encounter with a suspected terrorist, who may be involved in the train blast that occurred in Madhya Pradesh this morning. The suspected terrorist is holed up in the Thakurganj area of Lucknow. Shots have been fired from both sides and security forces have even used chilly bombs in an effort to smoke him out. It is being said that the suspected terrorist is heavily armed and may have links to the Islamic State (IS).
The security forces could easily storm the compound where the terrorist is hiding and take him down, but their mission is to take him alive, so that they can get valuable information about his terror network and its workings. The encounter has been going on since afternoon, and it is likely to continue further, as security forces try to tire him out or make him run out of ammunition.
Security forces said that the holed up terrorist was most likely to be Saiful, who is suspected to be involved in the Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh train blast. Speaking on the development, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Daljeet Chaudhary said, “The operation is the result of the UP police receiving specific inputs regarding possible terror suspects in the state.” He added that the terrorist may be linked with the train blast in Madhya Pradesh this morning.
