The salaries of Tamil Nadu MLAs has been increased from Rs 55,000 to Rs 1.05 lakh per month, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced in the assembly on Wednesday.
The chief minister also announced that MLA Local Area Development Fund would be increased from Rs 2 crore to 2.5 crore.
The decision may trigger similar demands of salary hikes in other states.
Incidentally, Samajwadi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Agrawal also raised a similar demand to increase salaries of MPs in Rajya Sabha today on the lines of hikes given to government servants through Seventh Pay Commission.
“Our salary is lesser than our secretaries,” Naresh Agrawal said in Rajya Sabha.
