TATA Consultancy Services(TCS), Country’s largest software company has announced that it is shutting down its Lucknow centre in order to consolidate its Uttar Pradesh operations. More than 1000 employees have been asked to move to Noida centre whereas some of the remaining staffs would be absorbed in the Varanasi BPO which is set to commence its operations from next year.
“We are consolidating our UP operations. There have been no job losses,” said Rajesh Gopinathan, chief executive and managing director of TCS.
The Lucknow facility has been in operation since 2007 and is situated in Gomti Nagar and has been doing internal processes for TCS and has a small team that works on projects for global clients. A group calling themselves SaveTCSPlease has drafted a letter to the leaders claiming that 2,000 employees, half of them women, would get affected by this shift by TCS since not everyone could relocate due to various reasons.
Off late many marquee IT companies are under fire for asking their employees to leave the organisation citing non-performance among others though it was alleged by the affected that most of the time, it was due to their age and usually the employees above 35 years have been targeted. The companies in question have denied these allegations rubbishing it as baseless.
