The Indian Railways today launched the Luxury train Tejas Express, which has a top speed of 200 kmph. It was launched today at 3.25 pm from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) to Karmali station, which is the third station within Goa. Tejas Express will complete the journey in less than 9 hours. It could have done even better if it were allowed to run at its top speed, but due to the quality of tracks in certain areas, the average speed comes out to be around 160 kmph. The train features ultra-modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, CCTV and fire and smoke detection systems. The train has been specially designed for people who want to explore the beautiful Konkan route.
During the Monsoon season, the train will run 5 days a week and at other times, it will run 3 days a week. The train features one Executive First AC coach and 12 Chair-car coaches, which have been manufactured at Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala.
Some of the exclusive features of Tejas Express include:
- Higher carrying capacity
- Ergonomic seating that comes with improved cushioning and upholstery
- Entertainment screens
- GPS based information systems
- Concealed LED lighting
- Wi-Fi facility
- Digital destination boards
Since the services offered by Tejas Express are superior, its rates are around 20% more than that of other trains such as Shatabdi Express.
