When a drug trafficker – Calvin Mascarenhas was arrested a few days ago, no one believed that it would open a can of controversies involving some highly placed stars. When the person’s mobile was scrutinised, details about tollywood stars were found which included the names of Actor Ravi Teja, Charmy, Mumaith Khan, Director Puri Jagannath among others.
Ravi Teja is a popular telugu actor whose name surfaced last year when his brother was caught with drugs and was later released. He lost his brother few days back when he was met with an accident and the investigations proved that he drove his luxury sedan in a very high speed which has been the cause of the accident. None of the actor’s family came forward to claim the body and was cremated by the police officials.
Summons were sent to the members identified by the Special Investigation Team (SIT ). In response to this, Puri Jagannath accompanied by his brother and son, the director reached the office of the Prohibition & Excise Department around 10 a.m. where he was grilled by the officials close to 9 hours regarding his alleged involvement in the usage of drugs.
SIT team has summoned one artist a day for questioning. Actresses Charmee Kaur and Mumaith Khan are scheduled to be questioned on July 20 and July 21 respectively. Actors Ravi Teja, Navdeep, Tarun, Subbaraju and Nandu, cinematographer Shyam K Naidu and art director Chinna will also be probed said Excise Enforcement Director Akun Sabharwal, who is heading the probe.
Jagannath told the reporters that he is a law abiding citizen and has not used drugs and will never use it.
The probe has also revealed a shocking stats that 1,000 students of leading private schools and colleges in the city were using high-end drugs such as LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) and MDMA (methylenedioxy-methamphetamine). They have issued advisories to over 50 schools and colleges.
