Bangalore, March 22, 2015: In a community initiative, Teztadka restaurant in association with Stop Hunger Now India helped fund 10,000 meals for underprivileged kids from a school in Tannery Road, Bangalore run by the Hope Foundation. The event took place at Teztadka restaurant premises on Sarjapur Road. Close to 70 volunteers turned up to pack 10,000 nutritionally fortified meals of rice, dal, vegetables and vitamins on the auspicious day of Ugadi. The volunteers were treated to an engaging performance by the folk-rock band Swarathma.
Stop Hunger Now, an organization established in 1998, coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid to crisis-burdened areas around the world in an attempt to put an end to hunger. They have packaged and distributed over 300,000,000 meals in 65 countries. In India, they are setting up their full time office, with the first chapter being located in Bangalore. This is the first local community-led event for Stop Hunger Now India.
Speaking about the event Gaurav Shanbhag, the managing partner of Teztadka said “As a restaurant, we see a lot of food being wasted on a daily basis while there are millions of people around the world that go hungry to bed. We want Teztadka to be a place that solves hunger issues. And therefore, even when we are just 4 months old, we tied up with Stop Hunger Now to ensure that those who need it most are getting a nutritious meal. We hope to host many such events to help the community. I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make this event a success through their contributions and participation.”
Dola Mohapatra from Stop Hunger Now India said “The beauty of this event was the coming together of socially committed individuals who truly want to make a difference by taking direct action. The spirit of the volunteers, most of whom are well placed professionals in various fields, was contagious when they came together to package meals. Special appreciation must go to Ms. Supriya Jain and Mr. Gaurav Shanbhag of Teztadka for taking leadership and making this first community event of Stop Hunger Now India such a great success”.
One of the volunteers Arun Katiyar who is also a renowned writer and avid cyclist said “This event was fun and fulfilling and we managed to pack 10,000 meals between us in the short span of 2.5 hours! Incredible! Thanks to those who contributed their time and ability”.
Talking about their involvement with this initiative Jishnu Dasgupta, Bassist and Vocalist for Swarathma said “Swarathma loved playing for the volunteers of the pack a meal initiative with Stop Hunger Now and Teztadka. As a band we find joy when our music resonates with causes we believe in, and this was one such event. There was great energy and I am happy we could add to it. I hope we created some happy memories that people carried back with them.”
