The Supreme Court of Nepal has reinstated its First Woman Chief Justice and has asked the Parliament to halt the impeachment motion that was issued against her. Post the order, Sushila Karki returned to her office. Karki has done her Masters in Political Science from Banaras Hindu University.
Supreme Court assistant spokesperson Bishwo Raj Paudel said, “She will start legal work from Sunday.”
The order of reinstatement was issued by Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana who is from a single member bench and has termed her removal as against the spirit of Constitution of Nepal.
Earlier in April 30, advocates Kanchan Krishna Neupane and Sunil Ranjan Singha had moved the Supreme Court the very next day after the impeachment motion was moved against the Chief Justice in he Parliament which has got the motion signed by 249 lawmakers from two major parties of Nepal namely Nepali Congress and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) as they believed that Karki is interfering with the executive and issuing ‘prejudiced’ verdicts.
The reinstatement has now put the Parliament in a fix.
