Music maestro AR Rahman has condemned the killing of senior journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh, saying the current scenario does not represent the India he knows.
If incidents like this continue to happen in the country, then this is not my India, he said.
Gauri Lankesh was earlier this week shot dead by unidentified assailants at her home in Bengaluru.
Rehman said that he was extremely pained by the incident. “I am so sad about that and I hope these things do not happen in India”, he also said.
He also added that he wanted India to be progressive and kind.
The Oscar winning-musician was speaking at the premiere of his upcoming film “One Heart: The A R Rahman Concert Film”. The film will released on Friday in Hindi, English and Tamil.
Rahman, in the past, has spoken out against rising intolerance in the country.
The murder of Lankesh has left many shocked and concerned about the consequences people face for exercising one’s right to freedom of speech and expression.
