In a show of solidarity and to protest against the recent murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh, thousands of people took to the streets today in protest and to voice their concerns. Gauri was a journalist and she was also a critic of right groups. She was murdered in front of her residence on September 5. The Karnataka government has formed a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate her murder. The protest rally organized today started from Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna railway station, which is located in the heart of Bengaluru. A convention was also organized at the starting point. The theme of the protest rally was ‘I am Gauri’ and this slogan was raised all throughout the rally.
At the convention, a commemorative edition of the Gauri Lankesh Patrike was also released. The patrike was the weekly tabloid of Gauri Lankesh. In the commemorative edition, various articles have been published by people who had known Gauri and had various memories to share about her. Medha Patkar was among the prominent activists who attended the protest rally. Patkar condemned the killing of Gauri and said that so many lives have been lost in the name of development. She said that the protest rally will show the united stand of activists all across India.
