Three Service Chiefs calls on Sithraman
Nirmala Sitharaman who has been given the portfolio of full time minister of Defence in the rejig done in the cabinet by PM Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah has been met by The Army, Navy and IAF chiefs today where they apprised her about the overall security challenge and preparedness of the forces.
By becoming the second ever Woman to hold this portfolio since it was first held by then PM Indira Gandhi has been in news since the entire nation wanted to know as to how she will perform in the crucial ministry which handles nation’s security. However Sitharama is the first ever woman to hold this portfolio as a full time minister.
With the Doklam issue being resolved amicably, the issue which would have been escalated to the level of war has been diffused may have brought some relief for the new minister since she need not have to worry about it but other continuing issues like PoK, Bangladesh Migrants etc would be her main focus.
The service chiefs briefed Sitharaman about the operational preparedness and major issues concerning the forces during the meeting at her residence, official sources said. Though she has been appointed as the Minister, she is yet to take the charge which is likely to happen by Wednesday since senior minister Arun Jaitley is attending a two- day bilateral security dialogue in Japan as defence minister since he has been handling this as an additional charge earlier along with Ministry of Finance.
