Telecom major Airtel is buying Tikona Network’s 4G Verticals for Rs.1,600 crores. This would help the company acquire spectrum and 350 sites in 5 telecom circles. Tikona currently operates in Gujarat, UP(East), UP(West), Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh and has 20 MHz spectrum in the 2300 MHz band.
Airtel had announced last month that it would be acquiring the local unit of Norway’s Telenor whose value is pegged at around Rs.2,000 Crores.
By buying out Tikona’s 4G, Airtel will now have nationwide TDD-LTE Spectrum. With a combination of FDD-LTE, this acquisition will help Airtel in the future when the demand for 4G surges. With the additional spectrum, this will also help Airtel to improve the quality of its services.
