Tillerson declines to host Ramzan Ifthar

United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson came under the limelight after he declined the request by the State Department’s Office of Religion and Global Affairs to host the reception marking the Eid ul-Fitr, the end of the holy month of Ramzan.

Across the globe, many nations hot various religious function and White House along with State Department has been doing this since 1999 with either breaking the fast or an Eid Ul-Fitr reception. The President of US , Donald Trump who recently toured to Arab Nations to forge a strong bonding with the oil rich Muslim nations said ‘At its core, the spirit of Ramzan strengthens awareness of our shared obligation to reject violence, to pursue peace, and to give to those in need who are suffering from poverty or conflict’


Ramzan event is usually attended by members of Congress and the diplomats from Muslim nation including Muslim community leaders and top US officials.

“We are still exploring possible options for observance of Eid ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the month of Ramzan,” said a State Department spokesman who also added “US ambassadors are encouraged to celebrate Ramzan through a variety of activities, which are held annually at missions around the world”

 Tillerson issued a statement calling Ramzan as  ‘a month of reverence, generosity, and self-reflection’.
As per President Trump, the US is looking to scrap the religious outreach offices but the final decision to implement the same is awaited.
The news may not go down well with the Muslim nations since Trump has already imposed lot of other restrictions in the recent days.
