Top 10 Richest Sports Personalities in India

Sports can be a highly rewarding career, as corporates are willing to give lots of money in endorsements and promotions. While cricket remained the favorite for many years, other sports such as badminton, hockey, kabaddi, shooting, weightlifting, gymnastics, etc. have also started getting substantial funding from corporate bodies. To help you get an idea about the earning potential in sports, here’s a list of the top 10 richest sports personalities in India.

Virat Kohli: The captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli earned around Rs 100 crore during the last year. Kohli’s earning in 2016 was even more at around Rs 134 crore. Kohli also featured in the Forbes annual list of the world’s 100 highest-paid athletes. He was ranked at No: 83 and was the only Indian to be featured in the list.

Sachin Tendulkar: Even though he is retired now, Sachin Tendulkar continues to earn a great deal of money through royalty, endorsements and promotions. In 2017, Sachin’s earning was Rs 82.5 crore.

MS Dhoni: Former captain of Indian cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni continues to make tons of money. In 2017, he earned around Rs 63 crore through match income and endorsements.

PV Sindhu: This badminton champion has been a true delight for sports fans, as she became the first Indian woman to win a Silver Medal at the Olympics. Sindhu has also won silver at the BWF World Championship. Naturally, her stock has risen substantially, enabling her to earn around Rs 57 crore in 2017.

Ravichandran Ashwin: This all-rounder cricketer from Tamil Nadu has had a superb career in domestic, international and T-20 championships. In 2017, he earned around Rs 34 crore through match earnings and endorsements.

Ravindra Jadeja: Ravindra is also an all-rounder international cricketer, who represents Saurashtra in first-class cricket. A top-ranked bowler in the world, Ravindra Jadeja earned around Rs 34 crore in 2017.

Saina Nehwal: Saina is also a leading badminton player, who has participated three times in the Olympics and has won a bronze medal. She has also won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. In 2017, she earned Rs 31 crore through match earnings and endorsements.

Rohit Sharma: This right-handed batsman from Mumbai holds the record of the highest runs scored in an ODI. Rohit scored 264 against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in 2014. His total earning in 2017 was around Rs 30 crore. 

Shikhar Dhawan: This left-handed opening batsman plays for Delhi in domestic cricket and has represented India in various championships. In 2017, he earned around Rs 16 crore.

Anirban Lahiri: One of the top golfers in the country, Anirban Lahiri is active on the PGA Tour, Asian Tour and European Tour. In 2017, he earned around Rs 12 crore.
