In a fierce attack today in Jammu and Kashmir, two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists targeted a police convoy that included three top cops of the rank of superintendent of police. The top officers were senior superintendents of police of Pulwama and Awantipora Raees Ahmed and Zahid Malik, and the district’s Additional Superintendent of Police Chandan Kohli. The militants were travelling in a vehicle and they had reached close to a check post in Padgampora area of Pulwama. The security forces tried to stop them, but they started firing. However, they were soon killed in a gunfight.
Two weapons have been seized from the terrorists. Senior police officers lauded the efforts of the security forces, who responded quickly and killed the terrorists without attracting any injuries or causalities. It may be recalled that the state has been put on high alert ahead of PM Modi’s visit and the upcoming parliamentary by-elections. PM Modi will visit the state for the inauguration of Chenani-Nashri tunnel and he is expected to be there on April 2. However, details of the visit have not been made public due to security reasons.
