In yet another major win for security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Abdul Qayoom Najar has been killed. Najar was the oldest surviving militant active in the Kashmir Valley. He was killed today by security forces during an encounter in Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir. Najar was a dreaded terrorist and had a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head. He was killed today while he was trying to infiltrate the Indian border in Uri. The killing of Najar comes after security forces foiled an infiltration attempt by Pakistan’s Border Action Team in Kupwara. Najar was one of the most wanted terrorists in North Kashmir and since many years, he had managed to get away from security forces. He was cornered earlier also, but each time he had managed to slip away and evade arrest.
Najar was involved in various terror attacks in the Kashmir Valley. He had been involved in the attack on mobile towers and the killing of several people in Sopore and nearby villages. The security forces had ascertained that the attacks were carried out by Najar and his associate Imtiyaz Kundoo. The 10 lakh reward on Najar was announced by Jammu and Kashmir police in 2015. Najar had joined militancy at just 16 years of age. This is the time when people have impressionable minds and can be manipulated easily. And once they start their bad ways, killing people and spreading terror, it’s not possible for them to return back even when they may realize that what they are doing is wrong. This is exactly what happened to Najar. He has now paid the price for his wrongdoings.
