Football legend Francesco Totti has called of quits playing the professional football which he has been doing for the past 25 years. He is now been appointed as the director at the Serie A club.
Totti who is the forward player played his last game for Roma as a second-half substitute against Genoa at the end of the season in May. With the news of him being appointed as a Director has sent a message that he has given up the career playing.
“The reception I got will always be with me. It is difficult to explain to the fans the sensations and the emotions that I had on that day,” he said and continued further “It was beautiful to play the game, but everything has to end… It’s been 25 years and more of a beautiful relationship with Roma.”
Totti has made 786 appearances, scoring 307 goals including 250 in Serie A which is the second-highest total by a single player after Silvio Piola between 1929 and 1954. He was also in the Italian World Cup winning team of 2006 but with ROMA, he only had a single A Serie title which was way back in 2001.
Totti was congratulated by his team members. His club A S ROMA said “Totti is now looking forward to bringing the same passion and determination he had as a player to his new role… as he begins work as a director for his boyhood club”.
