The eldest son of Cecil the Lion has met with the same fate just like his father who died in 2015 in Zimbabwe which has created a worldwide rage.
Xanda, a six-year-old male, the eldest son of Cecil was killed just outside Hwange National Park in north west Zimbabwe exactly near the spot where where Cecil died two years ago. The identification was done by the zoo authorities since he was fitted with an electronic tag.
Richard Cooke has been accused of killing Xanda. He handed over the Xanda’s electronic collar to the researchers. It is to be noted here that, Cooke was also accused of killing Xanda’s brother back in 2015.
Andrew Loveridge, from the Oxford University research team said “I fitted it(electronic tag) last October. It was monitored almost daily and we were aware that Xanda and his pride was spending a lot of time out of the park in the last six months, but there is not much we can do about that.
“Richard Cooke is one of the ‘good’ guys. He is ethical and he returned the collar and communicated what had happened. His hunt was legal and Xanda was over six years old so it is all within the stipulated regulations.”
Cecil was found beheaded and skinned near Hwange National Park in 2015. Walter Palmer, a dentist from Minneapolis, paid a $55,000 (Rs 35 lakh) bribe to wildlife guides to allow him to shoot the lion with a crossbow and was forced to abandon his dental practice.
