Trump’s first foreign visit with mega deals signed with Saudi

Donald Trump who undertook his first ever foreign visit after taking over as President of USA landed in Saudi Arabia on Saturday which saw something exceptional. It was King Salman himself who came to receive Trump at the airport as soon as the Airforce One landed. Unlike last time when Barrack Obama visited the country as the President, the King did not come to receive him personally. King Salman was accompanied by his Son and other Royals and highly placed ministers. Trump is on his 2 days visit to the Kingdom and will be travelling to other places including Vatican where he will be meeting The Pope. The total travel schedule is for 8 days.

USA said it had signed deals worth USD350 Billion which included an $110bn arms deal that was described by the White House as the single biggest in US history.

Trump has been accompanied by his wife Melanie, Daughter Ivanka and Son-in-law Jared Kushner. Unlike British PM Teresa May or German Chancellor Angela Merkel, both Mrs Trump and Ivanka did not wear head scarves.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the arms deal was aimed at countering the “malign” influence of Iran.

“The package of defence equipment and services supports the long-term security of Saudi Arabia and the entire Gulf region,” he told.

Trump will attend the Arab Islamic American Summit in Riyadh and speak about his “hopes of a peaceful vision of Islam”.  He was praised by King Salman in his official tweet who also handed over the highest Saudi Civilian honour – King Abdulaziz Medal to Trump.

Mr Trump caused controversy during his campaign by calling for Muslims to be temporarily banned from entering the US over security concerns. Carrying laptops to the flights bound from few muslim nation were also banned.
