Friday, 1 Feb, 2019 New Delhi: Broadband India Forum (BIF), a not-for-profit policy forum and think tank announced today that it is organizing a two-day workshop with two leading industry entities – the Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI) who is recognised by the Department of Telecommunications, Govt. of India as India’s Telecom SDO and 5G Infrastructure Association (5G IA) with support from the Delegation of the European Union to India and India-EU Cooperation Project on ICT-Related Standardisation, Policy and Legislation, on ” India EU Stakeholders’ Workshop on 5G Technology Landscapeon Tuesday 5th February and Wednesday, 6th February 2019 in New Delhi. The workshop will bring together technology experts from the EU and India geographies to share their experiences and explore areas of mutual collaboration.
As the global community gears up to implement the first wave of 5G technologies, the three entities believe that it is important to collaborate on the trials and pilots and share emerging experiences and outcomes. At the same time, a shared vision for further development of technologies and deployment of futuristic technologies, is necessary to accelerate the delivery of benefits of this wave of telecom to the global community at large.
This workshop shall focus on the paramount importance of creating the digital communications infrastructure that is required to be put in place which is essential for 5G to take off and the concurrent adoption of optimally harmonized global standards. India has drawn up a roadmap to promote indigenous IP development and deployment, in collaboration with global players, of this technology. As the global community gears up to implement the first wave of 5G technologies, it is important to collaborate on the trials, pilots and share the experiences. A shared vision for further development and deployment of futuristic technologies is necessary to accelerate the delivery of benefits of 5G to the global community.
The uniqueness of this workshop is that it is the first time, global experts on the subject are getting together to discuss, deliberate and collaborate on two of the most important issues: –
- i)Ways and means of creating optimum digital infrastructure on a huge scale that is needed for delivering 5G and,
- ii)Adoption of globally harmonized standards which takes into account India specific
The workshop will cover topics from following areas:

- Status of standardization
- 5G Trials, Interoperability and Test Beds
- Rural 5G
- mm Wave and VLC Building Network Architecture
- Cloud, Satellite and Broadcast viz. 5G
Ms. Aruna Sundararajan, Telecom Secretary and Chairman, Digital Communications Commission, Govt. of India will grace the event. Mr Jean-Pierre Bienaimé, Prof Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Mr T V Ramachandran, Mr Satish Jamadagni, Mr Anindya Saha, Dr Belkacem Mouhouche, Mr Gourav Prateek Sharma, Mr Marco Gramaglia, Mr Romain Bucelle, Dr John Cosmas, Prof Kiran Kuchi, Dr R K Ganti are some of the eminent speakers besides other attendees including Industry experts from EU and India.
