Two bouncers were arrested for allegedly roughing up photojournalists while clicking pictures of actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra on Thursday night.
The assault left one of the photographers, Robin Chawla, bleeding.
The photographer filed a complaint against the bouncer in Khar Police station.
“Chawla complained that the bouncers hit him with a steel kada (bracelet),” said senior inspector Ramchandra Jadhav.
Another photographer, Himanshu Shinde, who tried to intervene, was also assaulted. Chawla’s clothes were torn in the melee.
“The two bouncers, Narendra Kunchikurve (29) and Ashutosh Kadar (23), have been arrested on charges of assault,” added Jadhav.
Around 11pm, when Shetty and her husband stepped out and began walking towards their car, the bouncers blocked the photographers.
One of the witnesses said Shetty seemed to have no reservations with the photographers, but despite requests, the bouncers wouldn’t move out of the way.
An argument sparked off between Chawla and one of the bouncers, which ended in fisticuffs.
Shetty felt bad about this incident . “Really unnecessary… Feel bad for the paps.. they stand for hours sometimes for a shot…They are part of my fraternity and no one needs to be beaten for doing his job. Absolutely condemn what happened (sic),” the actor tweeted.
