Understanding the art and science of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a 5000-year old holistic healing system for the complete rejuvenation of the mind, body and soul. Ayurveda was developed in India and its knowledge has been passed on from generation to generation. Ayurveda has acquired significant importance in recent times, as an increasing number of people have become prone to a wide variety of diseases, primarily due to stress and unhealthy lifestyle choices. In today’s fast paced world, it’s very difficult to maintain your calm and composure, which can result in physical and emotional imbalance. Ayurveda seeks to correct these imbalances, helping you regain your energy, peace and zest for life.ayurveda (1)

Ayurveda as a science

Ayurveda is based on the premise that the mind, body and soul are interconnected. Due to stress and hectic lifestyles, these components get imbalanced, resulting in discomforting symptoms. In the United States, Ayurveda is considered a form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). As per Ayurveda, there needs to be harmony between the mind, body and spirit to be able to live a healthy, fulfilling life. Further, Ayurveda talks about the basic elements that make up every individual – space, air, fire, water, and earth. These elements, in turn, power the three energies called Vata dosha (space and air); Pitta dosha (fire and water); and Kapha dosha (water and earth). These combine in different proportions in every individual, which makes them unique. When these life forces are imbalanced, it can lead to sickness. Ayurveda restores the balance among these life forces, making you completely recharged and brimming with energy.

Ayurveda as an art

Knowledge is one thing and using it effectively is another. To derive the benefits of Ayurveda, you may have to work with an experienced Ayurveda practitioner, who will create a specialized treatment plan based on your unique life forces, physical and emotional makeup and the imbalances that may be present. Identifying all these accurately takes years of practice, something that can be done by an experienced Ayurveda practitioner only. Imagine yourself as an imperfect picture, in which case, the Ayurveda practitioner would be the genius artist who will redraw some lines, add some colors, do some touch-ups and eventually create a masterpiece. The tools used would include things like specialized massage, herbs, herbal oils, aroma therapy, etc.

Ayurveda works with nature to treat imbalances, which ensures that it is free from any type of side-effects. Regular Ayurveda treatments can help you upgrade your life and live it with more passion and fulfillment.
