The second phase of UP Assembly polls came to an end at 5 PM today, registering around 60% voter turnout by 4 PM. The second phase polls were conducted for 67 assembly constituencies from across 11 districts in Uttar Pradesh. These districts include Rampur, Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Sambhal, Bareilly, Amroha, Pilibhit, Kheri, Shahjahanpur and Badaun. Around 2.28 crore voters were eligible to cast their votes in the second phase of UP polls. Out of this, over 1.04 crore voters are women. The second phase polling has been reported to be largely peaceful. Long queues could be seen at several phases. The excitement was evident among first time voters, many of whom were noticed taking selfies.
Meanwhile, BJP’s senior leader Kalraj Mishra claimed that the party has taken a decisive lead in the first phase of UP assembly polls. Mishra targeted the Congress-SP alliance, saying that it was a coalition of desperation and would come apart after the results for UP assembly polls are announced. He accused the Samajwadi Party for harboring criminals and the rising crime graph in the state. He also said that UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is bragging about the Lucknow-Agra Expressway and Lucknow Metro, but the fact is that these two projects were entirely financed by the center.
