Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, who is an Indian American who represents Hawaii in the United States House of Representatives, has said that the United States should immediately stop funding the terrorists who are fighting against the Assad regime in Syria.
Ms Gabbard had travelled to the Middle Eastern country and visited Beirut, Aleppo and Damascus to understand the situation on the ground. She said that any solution for ending the war would have to include Bashar Al Assad. She is said to have met Syrian opposition fighters, who she said were actually supporting Al Qaeda.
She also said that the US had waged wars to change regimes in Iraq, Libya and Syria and the results were there for everyone to see. She said that the visit to Syria convinced her that the US efforts in the Middle East to topple the Assad regime were hurting the people and were not in the interest of the Syrian people.
She had traveled to Syria with her husband Abraham Williams and former Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich. Mrs Gabbard has also been a Major in the US National Guard before joining politics.
