The assembly elections in Manipur Phase 1 and UP Phase 6 came to an end today evening, recording a voter turnout of 84.8% and 57.03% respectively. In Manipur Phase 1, polls were conducted for 38 constituencies. A total of 168 candidates were in the fray, of which, seven are women candidates. Polling was conducted at 1,643 polling stations. The assembly elections in Manipur Phase 1 were largely peaceful. There was only one case of violence, wherein a candidate, Erenedo, of the People`s Resurgence and Justice Alliance, has claimed that he was assaulted by unknown people. The security apparatus was managed by 8,408 personnel of the central paramilitary forces. There was no deployment of police or state force personnel at the polling stations.
In UP Phase 6 assembly election, polling was conducted for 49 assembly seats, spread across 7 districts. These districts are Mau, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Azamgarh and Ballia. A total of 635 candidates are in the fray in Phase 6 of UP assembly elections. This includes 63 women candidates. The total number of eligible voters are 1.72 crore, comprising 94.60 lakh men and 77.84 lakh women. The elections were largely peaceful, barring a few cases of violence in some areas.
