Voting ends in UP and Manipur; 60.03% and 86% voter turnout respectively

Assembly elections in UP (seventh and final phase) have come to an end today, registering a voter turnout of 60.03 percent. Polling was conducted in 40 constituencies. The total number of eligible voters were 1.41 crore, including 64.76 lakh women. The last leg of the UP Assembly polls witnessed back to back rallies and roadshows by PM Modi, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, and Mayavati. It is being speculated that the seventh and final phase of UP Assembly polls may hold the key to success in UP polls. The elections were largely peaceful today, even when some of the polling stations were located in Naxalite areas.

In Manipur also, the second and final phase of State assembly elections has come to an end today. The voter turnout by 5 PM was a massive 86%, which is a sign that people have become interested in the development of the State. The polls were held for 22 assembly constituencies, which began at 7 AM. These constituencies are located in the valley districts of Thoubal and the hill districts of Ukhrul, Chandel, Tamenglong and Senapati. A total of 98 candidates are in the fray in the second and final phase of assembly elections in Manipur. All eyes are on the contest between activist Irom Sharmila and Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh.
