Wellness of women alone ensures wellness for family!

When she was a child her role model was our legendary war hero – MaharanaPratap. But there are no more geographical wars to be won in this era. And so the girl born with a crusading spirit and an intense energy to match,chose the never-ending battle field of human suffering as her ‘karmabhumi’.

Who is she? Dr. Ragini Agrawal heads W Hospital -India’s largest specialty hospital for women. She ensures that the medical and emotional needs of her patients across all ages – all of them women – are well catered to.Over a long career spanning 25 years and counting, Dr. Ragini has garnered a deep insight into women’s mind and body functions. She asserts that many of women’s physical problems are manifestations of deep rooted emotional and psychological issues.

Why is she different? Dr. Ragini Agrawal is currently Director – Medical & Clinical Services at W Hospital. Hers has been a long journey of many firsts. She started as a regular Obstetrics & Gynecology practitioner in 1989 after completing her post – graduation studies from Allahabad Medical College. But the crusader for women’s health in her and a zest to provide better medical services has led her to many firsts in her career.

  • First Gynecologist to do operative laparoscopy like lap hysterectomy in Gurgaon.
  • She introduced Aesthetic Gynecology & Laser in North India.
  • Free medical camp by Gurgaon Ob-Gyn society – first ever by any medical society in Gurgaon.

Through her continued work with women, she felt the need to create awareness about women’s health issues. She has a deep understanding about the mental, physical and medical challenges that women face through different stages in their life – starting from adolescence, right throughtheir reproductive age, transitioning through menopause and on to sun set years. Therefore, her advice to her patients is never limited to the tried and tested medical methods. Dr. Ragini looks for prescriptions beyond just medicines and procedures. She is well-known for her empowering approach to women’s health and wellness through education and counselling. Her deep seated belief in ‘wellness of woman alone ensures wellness for family’contributes to her passion as a medical doctor, a medical educationist and a proponent of holistic women health care provider.

Her contribution to society – She has waged a war against a rampant yet ignored problem – Anemia. This widespread deficiencyaffects almost 80-90% population in India. It is the cause of multiple health and developmental issues in women and children. For the past many years, Dr. Ragini has been organizing regular camps in rural areas to fight this silent killer. She spearheaded the formation of GOGS Rural Maternal & Adolescent Girl Health Mission in 2010. The mission has been targeting rural areas and has been successful in bringing down the hold of Anemia in such regions.

She has also been associated with Lioness Club for improving health in slum dwellers.

Closest to her heart is her NGO – MAAI FOUNDATION. It is an initiative for maternal & adolescent health awareness. With the amount of time and energy she is devoting to this new NGO, results are bound to show very soon.

The Person – Despite having an extremely hectic and erratic professional life, Dr. Agarwal leads a fulfilled personal life. Her family has always been her tower of strength and has supported her in all her endeavours. Her husband and her son – both are accomplished Doctors in their chosen fields. She is an avid reader, loves to travel and is an excellent chef.

“Awareness, education and prevention are keys to better health” is her philosophy for practice which reflects in all her ventures.
